Care for the Elderly from Golden Oldies Community Care Project

About Golden Oldies Community Care

The project was founded in 1991 by the late Rev Lillian Francis. Born out of her own personal experiences of boredom, loneliness, and isolation at home shortly after her retirement, her vision was to help other older people in the community who found themselves in a similar position. She shared her passion, and her vision became a reality.

Our members

We currently have a membership of around 75 older people of varying ages between 60 to 100 and the care we provide ranges from moderate to substantial. Their needs are paramount to us.

Our members rely a great deal on the service that we provide. The centre can sometimes represent a lifeline and is home away from home. For some members we are their only source of social interaction and the project is an integral part of their day-to-day living, and without our help and support many would deteriorate very quickly both physically and mentally.

How our project benefits society

We aim to create a dynamic climate in which older people can be assisted to exercise control over their own lives, as well as taking action to improve their health and well-being.

By this principle, older people can contribute towards society in a positive and dignified way, challenging the present culture of dependency and symbolising a much needed change in viewpoint of this generation as a whole.

The people who have made it possible

Our thanks and gratitude goes to Southwark Council for their many years of support, We also wish to thank our funders, members, staff, and volunteers, who have all made the project what it is today.
The vision of one person has benefited many over the years. We hope that we will continue to get financial support so that this inspirational and important project can continue to progress from strength to strength in caring for older people.

Despite difficulties in obtaining future funding, we have pledged to continue offering our community care services because we believe that we play a very important role in the lives of our members and their families. If you wish to offer your support, please contact us today.
